Hey everyone!
*Cue Empire State of Mind by Jay Z and Alicia Keys* ( Got that song stuck in your head didn’t I?! You’re welcome! ;))
Now that I have you all in the “big lights will inspire you” kind of mood, I can introduce my last NYC blog post! I have to admit, I definitely saved the best outfit for last. This look screams big city and I absolutely love it!! The whole fit made me feel like I actually belong in New York; my inner Gossip Girl seemed to outshine my true “too pale to be an actual Arizonan” self! If you are just interested in getting all the details on my wannabe gossip girl look, then go ahead and scroll to the pictures. If not, you should definitely keep reading!
As said in my previous NYC blog post, I will be writing about my trip to New York while also including some tips on the must see places to visit and the delicious restaurants to eat at! To start off, obviously you have to make your way to Time Square! Since my hotel was pretty much in Time Square, I found myself passing through there a lot. On my second full day in the city, my family and I went to Time Square for a bit and shopped around. My favorite places to shop in are the Forever 21 and the M&M store. If you have been reading my blog for a while now, then you probably know that about half of my closet is from Forever 21. So you can imagine my excitement when I walk into a five story version of my favorite store ever! As for the M&M store… even if you don’t like M&M’s you should still make your way into that chocolate haven. They don’t just sell every type of M&M you could think of… but they sell mugs, t-shirts, pillows, and even underwear. Yes… meaning that you could potentially have the Green M&M’s face covering your butt.(I triple dog dare you to get a pair for your significant other for Valentines Day lol) Lastly, Time Square is the place to be if you want to get tickets to a Broadway show for cheap! There is a spot near the red stairs (even if you have never been to New York you have to know what I am talking about) that allows you to wait in line to get discounted tickets to a handful of Broadway shows. A few years ago I waited in line and got tickets to see Spider-Man, and I can honestly say it was worth the wait. Seeing a Broadway show actually ON Broadway is a must! So far on Broadway I have seen Spider-Man and Book of Mormon; unfortunately Spider-Man isn’t showing anymore but Book of Mormon is and it is hilarious!
That night we made our way back to Rockefeller Center where we went on the top of the Rock. My advise to you, if you had to choose between going to the top of Rockefeller Center or the Empire State Building, I would say go to the top of the Rock. I have been on the top of both and I honestly think that the top of Rockefeller is a much better view… plus you get the perfect shot of the Empire State Building right across from you! Personally, I think that seeing the Empire State Building from that level rather than being in it is much better! Also, if you can, you should definitely try and go at night; once, my dad and I went at about 11 o’clock at night on a week day, and we got to the very top with literally no wait at all. Not to mention the view is beautiful and the lights are incredible! (Alicia and Jay Z weren’t kidding when they said the lights will inspire you) For dinner, we went to John’s Pizzeria, which is honestly the best Pizza I have ever had. I could literally eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you know me then you already know that I am not really a pizza person… so this is big coming from me!
On our very last day in New York City we weren’t able to do much since we were to be flying home that afternoon. However, us Arizonans, who are used to seeing sunshine 99% of the time and an occasional rain drop, got to experience snow in the big city! I have some really pretty shots down below!
Like I said in my first NYC blog post, on this trip we didn’t hit every big touristy spot because we have already seen them. However, I will still list out what is in my opinion the top places to see/things to do when in New York below! (not including what I have already talked about)
- Take a ferry to the Statue of Liberty
- Visit the 9/11 Memorial
- Go up in the World Trade Center
- See a game at the Yankee stadium
- Ice Skate at Rockefeller Center during Christmas time
- Just walk around, sometimes its fun to just not have a plan and see where you end up!
